So, Sidney Crosby has vertebrae damage….no wait he doesn’t….no wait it’s soft tissue damage…but his agent said…but his GM said…but Crosby said….
So it went from Saturday of All Star Weekend until Sidney Crosby and Ray Shero met the media in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.
Media reports began with a “scoop” that Tom Brady’s wife recommended a doctor to Crosby; a doctor who had been helpful to Brady in the past, and according to the initial report, the doctor had found vertebrae damage, a diagnosis apparently confirmed by Pat Brisson, Crosby’s agent.
But by Tuesday, it was no longer a dire a situation. It was soft tissue damage and an issue that could be specifically addressed. There seemed to be a sigh of relief being breathed in Pittsburgh. At last, it was felt, we know what has been bothering Sidney and can take care of it.
But what of that initial report from a Toronto radio host? Well, he stands by his story. He is sticking by his facts that he says include a confirmation of his story by Brisson. He even goes as far as to question whether the Penguins are telling the truth about the whole thing.
My question is, who cares? Whether the Penguins are being completely honest or not matters not to me. That a Toronto radio host gets the scoop or not means nothing to me. What concerns me is that Sidney is still not playing. The best player in the world not in an NHL lineup is #87.
I know that there are lots of folks out there who suffer from Crosby burnout and I can understand it. Much like I had my fill of Tim Tebow over the last 6 weeks of the NFL season (then again, as a Bills fan there wasn’t much to cheer for).
But Crosby is more than Tebow…he’s a champion. He’s a proven talent and I miss seeing him in NHL games.
So before anyone else gets their shorts in a know about just how much information the Penguins have or should or will divulge about Crosby’s condition, let’s just understand a couple of important points:
First, the person who needs to know more than anyone else is Sidney himself. Everyone else is a collateral issue.
Secondly, rather than work myself into a fever-pitch over Crosby coverage, I will just wait patiently, like a kid on Christmas Eve, waiting to hear skate blades to hit the ice and fans at Consol Energy Centre to rise to their feet while the red light glares off of #87′s visor after he pots another beauty.
