This is what hockey fans and media need to do regarding Toronto Maple Leafs’ head coch Ron Wilson “lying” to the media this past Saturday regarding his goaltender.

The hockey media was in a big uproar after they found out goaltender James Reimer would be starting rather than what they were told, which was obviously Jonas Gustavsson. There are people out there saying this is a scandal, which when you think about it, is absolutely ridiculous.

Let’s look at this further. First off, Ron Wilson is the head coach. As head coach, he gets to decide who plays, who does not play, who sits, and so on and so forth.

So, based on that logic, Wilson had every right to make a smart coaching decision and go with Reimer. Reimer said he was good to go and since he is the team’s No. 1 goaltender, Wilson made a hockey-based decision.

Secondly, it really is not a lie. Wilson probably had every intention of starting Gustavsson. In fact, he said the following:

“I’m not being definitive on anything, but we’ve told Gustavsson that he’s going to be playing tomorrow.”

The key words in the sentence above were: “I’m not being definitive on anything.” The media just took it as Gustavsson was the definite starting netminder for the game.

As such folks, let’s just drop the whole thing and pretend it did not happen. In fact, when looking at the whole situation, NOTHING HAPPENED.
